Coursework

BMEN 303 Anatomy for Engineers (3 Credits)

Corequisite: BMEN 313 Anatomy and Physiology I Lab (1 Credit)

Description: A single semester course intended to address human anatomy and physiology from an engineering perspective. This course explores the various body subsystems and physiological correlates that support human life. Students conduct dissection work on human cadavers with the express intent to harvest tissues for mechanical testing that is completed in the anatomy course and subsequent biomechanics courses throughout the school year.

Prerequisite: CELL 101, EBIO 101 or instructor approval.

SCEN 303 Anatomy and Physiology I (3 Credits)

Corequisite: SCEN 313 Anatomy and Physiology I Lab (1 Credit)

Prerequisite: CELL 101, EBIO 101 or instructor approval.

Description: The first of two sequenced courses intended to address human anatomy and physiology. This course explores the musculoskeletal system and physiological subsystems that support human movement.

Corequisite: SCEN 313

SCEN 304 Anatomy and Physiology II (3 Credits)

Corequisite: SCEN 314 Anatomy and Physiology I Lab (1 Credit)

Prerequisite: CELL 101 or CHEM 107/117 or instructor approval.

Description: The second in a sequence of courses intended to address human anatomy and physiology.  The second course explores the respiratory, digestive, cardiovascular, lymphatic and reproductive systems.

NSCI 336 Central and Peripheral Nerve Anatomy  (3 Credits)

Prerequisite: SCEN 303,304 or instructor approval.

Description: This course is offered in the summer as a five week intensive program. A major emphasis of this course is identifying and dissecting out cranial and peripheral nerves. The course also identifies major structures of the CNS and removes the tissues intact for use in neuroscience and psychology courses.

CELL 666 Head and Neck Anatomy  (4 Credits)

Prerequisite: Graduate standing or instructor approval.

Description: An exploration of the the neck and face with emphasis given to structures associated with dental and ENT clinical careers.

CELL 649 Gross Anatomy  (4 Credits)

Prerequisite: Graduate standing or instructor approval.

Description: An exploration of the back, upper extremities with an emphasis on bones, muscles, arteries, nerves, and veins in these regions of the human body.

The Center for Anatomical and Movement Sciences will also house a Minor in Allied Health Sciences (17-20 credits) previously in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences.
